Alert - Restaurant Scam

A restaurant scam has hit Columbia and everyone should make sure their staff is on the alert.

The scammers use the phone relay system designed for the speech and hearing impaired to place a large to-go order and gives a credit card number for the purchase. The "customer" adds an extra amount to the card to pay for an outside delivery service and the restaurant is asked to send a money order to the delivery company.

Obviously, neither the customer, the credit card nor the delivery company is real and the restaurant is out the amount of the money order.

So far it's just hitting restaurants but everyone should keep an eye out for similar scams.

Halloweenie

If you're new to The District, you may not be familiar with Halloweenie, our trick or treating event for little children. On October 31, from 4 pm to around 6ish, stores and restaurants hand out candy.  The event is designed for little ones so the crowds have usually thinned out by the time shops close at 6.

All business are welcome to participate. Contact Persephone at 442-6816 or at info@discoverthedistrict.com for more details and a poster.

Homecoming Parade

The 2009 Mizzou Homecoming Parade presented by CenturyLink will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, Oct. 24. Mizzou basketball starts Steve Stipanovich (BSEd '89) and Jon Sundvold (BSBA '83) will serve as the 2009 Mizzou Homecoming Grand Marshals.

Due to campus construction, the parade route has been modified. Barricades will be placed along the route beginning at 8:30 am on Saturday morning. Please be aware that vehicles will not be allowed in or out of the parade route after that time.

Increased Traffic Enforcement

Just a friendly reminder:

The Columbia Police Department is increasing traffic enforcement in the downtown area, both for cars and bikes.  They've found that too many people are speeding, running lights and failing to yield to pedestrians.

They're also teaming up with PedNet to issue warnings to cyclists riding at night without lights.  PedNet's also offering free bike lights to these folks for a limited time.

Game Day Parking

The next home game is scheduled for Thursday, October 8 at 8 pm as the Tigers host Nebraska in a rare weeknight game.

Because classes will be in session, your typical game day routine may be disrupted and numerous parking lots--both for donors and the general public--will have special restrictions in place for that day.

Instead of dealing with all these parking changes, we recommend parking in
The District and riding the shuttle in.

Mizzou Shuttle

The Mizzou Shuttle Bus begins at Wabash Station and stops at the Armory Parking Lot,Boone Tavern/8th St. Parking Garage, Harpo's, Addison's, Bengals, Flat Branch Pub, and Shiloh. The final stop is Maryland & Hospital Drive, a short walk to the stadium.

The buses start at the Wabash Station on 10th & Ash at 6:00 pm and will depart every 15 minutes until the final bus departures at 7:45 pm.  After the game, final shuttle will leave Maryland & Hospital Drive 30 minutes after the final gun.  The fare is only $1 each way.

Parking is available at any of the four garages on 8th & Walnut, 8th & Cherry, 10th & Cherry or 6th & Cherry.  For more
District parking options check out www.parkinthedistrict.com. For special Nebraska game info, visit www.mutigers.com.
